Nicole Holmes
My grandmother is Abenaki native and she always has had dream catchers on her wall with different meanings, and made sure to share those different meanings with me. Abenaki are considered people of the river and basket weavers, with a history of making dream catchers. We would make goods and place them in water tight baskets and send them down the rivers for trade, which made our part integral for different tribes. Being known for our keen ability to weave, also makes us great contenders in the creation of dream catchers. We may not have been the first to create them, but the craft has been shared and explored for over a century. Born in Maine, I was always a crafter and developed my skill in many courses of art. Painting, sculpture, 3-D advanced at the University of Maine Orono. Crystals and types of wood that carry meaning that I will share as well as pieces to add to the dream catchers, crochet and beads, I am interested Kulay Deer Sinew for weaving and raw crystals that help with certain types of sleep goals/hopes and centering values.
